National Community Development Institute

NCDI is a technical assistance and training organization that works to build capacity in communities of color and other low-income communities. We primarily assist small grassroots organizations and community-based nonprofits to build capacity to attain their goals. We partner with foundations to develop and implement neighborhood initiatives, and we work with their grantees to help them achieve sustainability. We also support faith-based organizations and local municipalities engaged in social change work in our target communities.

NCDI offers a comprehensive catalogue of capacity building services including:

Technical Support
• Organizational Identity (vision, mission, values and niche)
• Leadership and governance
• Resource development
• Fiscal management
• Organizational planning
• Program development/management/evaluation
• Human resources
• Systems and Infrastructure

Training
• Capacity building in communities of color
• Policy advocacy
• Evaluation

Community Building
• Community change initiatives
• Community planning
• Resident engagement

Our goal is to provide an analytic framework, strategies and tools for individuals, organizations, and communities to bring about social change in their unique cultural contexts.

We believe that communities can guide their own social transformational process when they have good information, adequate resources, and the right kind of support. In our work, we believe that race and culture matter if social change is to be achieved and that the most effective solutions are community-driven.
