Kimbrough
Program Associate (Midwest Office)
Arlene joined the Detroit staff of NCDI in May 2006 as
a Program Associate and community liaison on the Skillman
Foundation’s Good Neighborhoods Initiative. She
coordinates community building and community organizing
in one of six Detroit neighborhoods targeted to increase
the social well-being of youth in poverty. Prior to joining
NCDI, Arlene served as Special Assistant to Detroit’s
Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in the Office of Community Affairs
where she maintained citywide communications for all community
and neighborhood organizations. Arlene has managed a commercial
revitalization program and coordinated a “Main Street
Clean & Safe” program in the New Center district
of Detroit for a faith-based Community Development Corporation.
She served as District Representative for Constituent
Services to a Michigan State Senator after leaving management
at the U.S. Census Bureau. Arlene holds a B.A. in Organizational
Management from Spring Arbor University and is pursuing
her Masters degree in Sociology at Wayne State University
in Detroit. Arlene is a native of New Jersey
